Technical Details / Specifications1. Standards & Reference Specs

Often designed per IS standards (e.g., IS-2705 for CT/PT) and sometimes relevant IEC standards.

Example: Maharashtra DISCOM spec for 11 kV cubicles.

Environmental design: the spec may consider relative humidity, rainfall, seismic, etc.

2. Mechanical / Enclosure Construction

Compartmentalization: The cubicle typically has four compartments:

CT / PT compartment

Meter compartment

Incoming cable compartment

Outgoing cable compartment

Metal enclosure: Usually fabricated from mild steel / cold-rolled sheet. Example: BSES spec: 2 mm sheet for general panel, 3 mm for HV compartment.

Protection / IP rating: For outdoor type, IP54 is a typical minimum for the enclosure.

Doors / Access:

Meter compartment: glass window in door for meter reading.

Interlocks: e.g., CT/PT compartment top cover interlocked so it cannot be opened unless meter compartment is opened.

Concealed hinges, pad-locking, sealing arrangements for security / anti-theft.

3. Instrument Transformers (CT / PT)

CTs (Current Transformers):

Resin-cast (epoxy) type is very common.

Insulation class: e.g., Class E resin.

Primary current rating: as per application; vendor example supports up to high currents. Secondary current: commonly 1 A or 5 A.Accuracy: 0.2S, 0.2, 0.5S, 0.5 class CTs (depending on ratio) per spec.

Short-time current rating: depending on design; e.g., some cubicle makers quote short-time current capability. Terminal construction: primary terminals heavily tinned copper, studs, etc.

PTs (Potential / Voltage Transformers):

Resin cast as well, often same insulation class.

Primary voltage: e.g., 11 kV (or 11 kV/√3 depending on phase), depending on system.

Secondary voltage: often 110 V or 110/√3 V (depends on spec).

Accuracy class: 0.2, 0.5, 1.0 depending on application.

Physical mounting: spec gives mounting dimensions (for example, for 11 kV, some spec says 280 × 190 mm for PT base mounting) Terminals: similar quality (tinned copper, studs) as CTs.
